Astuteo is hosted on the Fused Network Starter plan. It's a clean and simple setup – the best combination of quality, speed, and customer service that I've found $10-15 per month price range. Here’s the nuts and bolts:
My Current Setup
- LAMP Powered (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
- 1024 MB Disk Space
- Unmetered Bandwidth*
- Free Content Delivery Network (CDN)*
- Fused Local*
- 10 Email Accounts
- 3 MySQL Databases
- 5 FTP Accounts
- $144 annually (25% off with coupon code fused25off)
*Coming soon to all plans. Shared Starter bandwidth is currently 10GB/mo.
My Experience with Fused
I have experience with the Shared Business and Shared Starter plans and in both cases, Fused has been blazing fast – noticeably faster than anything else I'm working with, similar to the experience I had when Chrome supplanted Firefox as my web browser of choice. This could be because, in David's words, "we throw what appear to be small wheelbarrows full of money into our servers and (hope & pray) clients do the advertising part on our behalf." Believe me, it shows.
Past Hosting Experiences
I was a really happy Midphase customer for years, first on their basic plan and then on their business plan. Unfortunately, the company was acquired by UK2 Group and Midphase quickly shifted from being the "high quality, fair price" option to being just another affiliate-driven commodity host. My experience the last couple years was okay, but short of satisfactory. Not recommended.
I went the MediaTemple DV route for a year because well-targeted advertising and promotions convinced me it was the Holy Grail. I can't speak to where MT is at now, but I ended up paying a lot of money for what I found to be severely limited resources, slow servers, and lackluster service. I have no desire to give this another shot.
I still happily use EngineHosting when my ExpressionEngine clients require more resources at a lower price, but I miss cPanel. I'm not a server administrator by any means, so if I have the final say I prefer Fused Network, though Engine Hosting is a solid option.
